Todone: Shark bait

Helaas even in het engels zodat de buitenlandse bekenden het ook kunnen bijhouden.

I tried to maintain a record of my todone adventures on either photo or video however this time it didn’t pan out. But I do have a credible witness, my dad. During my first dive down under I was greeted by a 2.5m nurse shark just out of the coast of Byron Bay. Now I know what you’re thinking a shark is a shark isn’t it? Yes, but no, but yes. I wanted to dive with a proper meat eater and not a strain wich only eats salads (so to speak, since we’re not the main course).

During three other dives along the great barrier reef, up the coast from Byron, I encountered the Reef Shark. A little less tame then the Nurse variety but still no man eater if the situation presented itself. If these sharks bite they don’t have the force to actually bite a chunck off, so they say.

Now on to the meaty stuff. Two weeks ago while diving with my dad at the Ningaloo reef I stumbled upon three black tip sharks. To my suprise I wasn’t scared for a moment, it just didn’t enter my mind. I just kept breathing steadily and enjoying the view. I didn’t even realise how much some of the other divers tried to pretend they where a rock or sea cucumber.

I know what must of you will say, “Hey those weren’t great whites!” or “Buddy, there was no sack full of blood involved. It doesn’t count”. Of this I can honestly say, I will try to dive with a better pair of “me eaters” asap. But for now this is the best I have done.
