OSx86

Currently this is a work in progress…

I own a Dell XPS m1530 laptop on which I wanted to install Osx86. Seems a good choice since the hardware is very similar to (older) Macbook Pro hardware . Besides that I’m very much ok working with various tastes of Unix anyway. After reading many forum posts and installation guides I decided to go for it, knowing that it will probably not fully work (yet). This is why I decided to create a triple boot system Windows 7 RC1 / Mac OS X86 / Ubuntu 9.04 using grub (howto: google is your friend).

After trying some different OSX distributions I ended up using iDened v1.4

During installation I selected only one extra package: the NVInject 256mb, not even a different chipset! After booting into 10.5.6 and establishing it works (except: ethernet, wifi & sound), I switched to Ubuntu to download the “Mac OSX 10.5.7 Update” from the Apple website. After the various reboots my system recognized the internal Ethernet card and using DHCP I had a working connection.

Next up: Sound! But I think I’ve reached the maximum possible of this method, I really should try a Vanilla install using boot-132 as this is recommended by so many people …
